The motion control robotic camera system is characterised by a variety of software tools. Additional features expand the robotic camera system and allow comprehensive motion control.
Functionality The core piece of the robotic arm is the motion control software RoboKam Atelier. This intuitive software is especially designed for motion control applications and allows the user to create camera movements in combination with precise zoom and focus control. The highspeed robot offers new freedoms and possibilities to producers. There are no longer limits on the director's creativity or the technical execution of special effects.
The Robotic Camera System for Highspeed Motion Control consists of:
Highspeed Robotic Camera Arm Further developed from the 6 axis industry robot RX160 by Staubli, it has been modified according to the requirements of highspeed motion control. Therefore, for example, all necessary cables can run inside the robot arm, so they will not disrupt the camera movement on the set.
Robot Controlling The robot control is based on the Staubli CS8C robot controller for industrial use and has also been adapted specifically for the motion control sector. A quiet fan set can be purchased on demand, to keep the background noise on set as low as possible.
External Lens Controlling For accurate operation of zoom, focus, or aperture of the lens. The lens control is synchronised with the robot movement.
Basis for Robotic Camera ArmThe highspeed robot is mounted on the ground with a compact base. Additional weights can be applied onto the base to speed up a flexible installation on the set.
Camera Mount A light but nevertheless stable camera mount allows the user to install various camera types e.g. Vision Research's Phantom series (Gold, Flex, Flex 4K), Vision Research's Miro, ARRI's Alexa and Amira, Red Epic or Dragon on the robot.
Event Control Unit The event control unit allows the receiving of control signals as well as triggering them to generate synchronous special effects. There are also two ports available that allow the controlling of external stepper motors as well as one port for shutter control of cameras, enabling dynamic frame rate changes.
Flightcase The flightcase contains all necessary components to control the robot to save time while setting up.
Controller This industrial PC is main component of the robotic system and its coordinator. Necessary processes for real time motion control run on it.
RoboKam Atelier RoboKam Atelier is a powerful, intuitive user interface with which the robotic camera system is moved, camera movements are saved and the events next to and in front of the camera are controlled. Software ports – for example lens control, integration of external axes (e.g. Turntables) or camera communication to trigger and synchronise the shutter – are operated via RoboKam Atelier. The user executes all these functions with only this software.
